I got this today from Barbara Paul Craft.  Thanks much for sharing some memories Barbara…!!
 Hi Friends from the 50’s,
We did have great times at KHS. Sitting on the fence at the noon hour, slumber parties, Jolly’s for cokes after school, Flory’s for a coney dog, those little 25 cent sundaes with yummy tenderloins at Wood’s Drug Store, and root beer lfloats at Sullivan’s as part of our cruisin’ around town. How about marching in the band, singing in the chorus, painting the windows at Christmas, being in school plays and “Rocking Around the Clock” at prom? We were fortunate to be in small classes with teachers who cared, and to live with loving parents in a safe town where everybocy (almost) knew our names.Basketball was a big part of our lives whether we were playing or watching it. Remember beating New Castle our senior year and the bonfire on the square? The movie “Hoosiers” brings back the memories of the Milan-Muncie Central game in 1954 and we all sat in our living rooms ears glued to the readio to hear the outcome as Bobby Plump made that last shot. The little school did win and we were one of those little schools. Our very own, now historic, gym was chosen as the site to film scenes for that  movie  and is still the venue for many reunions and events.

Out in the world Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower were our presidents, we watched “I Love Lucy,” Jackie Gleason and Perry Mason on a new thing called television. Elvis was becoming a phenomenon, as “Heartbreak Hotel” hit the top of the charts, and we had a lot of look-alikes to James Dean.  Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus  and the “Little Rock Nine”  integrated Central High School with the help of the National Guard. The space age was launched with Sputnik and the Salk vaccine was discovered easing our worries about getting polio. Th world was changing without our realizing it, and it would never be the same again. We truly were happy and secure and enjoying all of the great times we had at KHS.P. S. I now live with my high school sweetheart, John Craft, in Collierville, Tennessee and we have been married 47 years.  We have four children and eight grandchildren, are active in our church, and travel to 3 or 4 antique shows a year with our Early American Pressed Glass.  We still get back to Indy and K-town once or twice a year and love going back to some of the old places and seeing  family and  friends.    Would love to hear from any of you.

Here are a few pictures of some of the ‘56 girls, post grad….  I’m not sure what the occasion was.  The pictures were sent to me by Nancy Maple.    Thanks Nancy…!!!!!

Here’s a gallery of pictures from the 50th year reunion of the KHS class of 1956.  I got these pictures but I’m not sure if it’s legal that I use them here.  They’re from the loose leaf pages that someone in the class published after the reunion.  I didn’t see a copyright on them so I’m going to load them but if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes please let me know and I’ll remove them.  Someone did some darn fine work to make up the pages with the pictures.  It was a quality job….

  1. This is what the boys of the 1956 class looked like in 2006. More of each person than in 1956

  3. The pictures Nancy Maple sent in were of Joan Sharp’s 50th birthday slumber party held at Joyce Smith’s house in Warsaw Indiana in 1988. It was lots of fun seeing everyone again and we did slumber this time unlike years ago when we were teenagers.
