“Although we smile and make no fuss

No one misses them more than us.

And when old times we oft recall,

It’s then we miss them most of all.”

Bill Lukens sent this list of the members of the KHS Class of 1956 who are deceased. We mourn their passing.

  1. How sad!

Although I was not personally acquainted with most of these fine men and women, my heart tugged as I noted the passing of a few I knew well. Lonnie Young in particular was an old friend. As a youngster I was very close to Lonnie and his family.

Darrel Cooney passed your website along to me and I must compliment you on the fine job of putting it together. I graduated in1952 and I am afraid not much is done to keep grads abreast of old classmates. I have lived away from Knightstown for 55 years now, but it still occupies a place in the corner of my heart. Now that I am retired and 74 I think about the “old days” a little more often than when I was younger, working at a career and raising a family.
I consider myself blessed to have been born and raised in a place like Knightstown.

  2. A classmate Terry Clark passed this web site on to me, I have really enjoyed looking at the pictures you are doing a great job. I have passed this web site on to some of the people I have talked to from K-town. It’s hard to see that so many of my classmates (1959) have passed on. Nancy ( Langston) Miller and I were best friends in high school It was really hard to deal with when Nancy and her baby were killed, we had big plans for our kids she had a son and I had a daughter we were going to be mother-in-laws hopefully, not meant to be. I plan on sending some pictures to Terry Clark when I get them to geather and maybe he can pass them onto you. Thanks for the web page and all the work you do on it, the older we get the more fun it is to think back of our younger years.

  3. I would like to thank you for putting a photo of my Father (Mack Winters) on your site. I miss him tremendously and there’s so much I would like to tell him since he’s passed. I talk about him to my daughter, tell her stories, but I don’t think she really understands what a great, genuine man and extraordinary Father he was. I wish he could have met her. She would have been the joy of his life. It seems like a lifetime ago since he passed. Knightstown was always his home and he always had good things to say about his classmates. I think growing up in the 50’s would have been a great time to be a kid. Things seemed so simple back then.
Keep up the great work on the website. It looks great!

  4. I have been reading the Knightstown High School Basketball news along with the Memoriam to our many classmates. I played on the 1952-53 basketball team at Knightstown, our record for that year was 20 wins and 3 losses. Our losses went to New Castle in the Sectional, Knightstown Morton Memorial at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Childrens Home, and to Middletown. Knightstown Morton Memorial lost to State Champ Milan in the Sectional at Rushville in a double overtime. I am now a retired school teacher and basketball coach. I was fortunate enough to coach 3 state basketball teams in Florida during the 1960’s and 1970’s. I am now retired and spend my summers on my farm in Mt.Sterling,Ky. I spend my winters in the sunshine of Florida.
