Dances and Proms

Posted in Project 1950s by Ed @ Sep 12, 2007

If we weren’t going to a basketball game we were dancing.   At least that’s the way it seems in my memory.  We sure had a lot of dances in those days.

There were several gala dances throughout the year sponsored by adult organizations and also several “big event” dances put on by the different classes in school.  Then there were the informal “sock hop” affairs practically every week we had a home game during the winter.  The adult dances were also open to the older teens so we were a bunch of dancin’ fools…

These dances were held annually:

The New Years dance

The Valentines Dance

The Prom

The Graduation Dance

The Christmas Dance

In addition, there were several other “benefit” dances throughout the year.

Here are a few articles from the “Banner” about dances in Knightstown.

Click on the arrow thing for a song which was popular in February of ‘54 but was impossible to dance to.

This one was kind of dippy too but at least you could dance to it.

Hope to put some more good stuff here.  I need your dance, and especially, your Prom pictures….!!!  Comeon folks…!!!  Nobody throws away prom pictures.  There’s got to be some out there.  How about sharing them…  Send me an email if you have any.

  2. Hey Ed, This is so good and I’m sending it to people that I’m in contact that graduated from good “ole” K-town.

Keep up the good work and thank you.
